Award Winning Books Reading Challenge 2012

I’ve recently been lining up my Reading Challenges for 2012, and have decided to include the Award Winning Books Reading Challenge hosted by Gathering Books.

The challenge is to read books that have won awards.  Books can be of any genre and age, but I’ll most likely be focusing on adult novels, with the possible occasional YA.

I’m going to stick with Level 1 for the moment, which consists of reading up to 10 books.  There’s a fair chance that I’ll increase this as I go, but for now I’m going to stick with what I know I can handle.

As far as reading ideas, I know for sure that I’d definitely like to read:

  • “The Dispossessed,” by Ursula K. Le Guin, which won both the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction
  • “The Wood Wife,” by Terri Windling, which won the Mythopoeic Award

I’d like to try to focus on fantasy/sci-fi awards, but I do plan on branching out a bit.  One of the neat things about this challenge is that it gives me an excuse to learn more about the variety of book awards that are out there.

  1. Hi! Going around blogs who’ve joined up for the challenge. I have a few Ursula Le Guin titles as well, not sure if those are award recipients. Would help me get started if they are! 🙂

  2. Hi Grace! Welcome to the reading challenge. I’m glad that you can join us. I have a few Ursula LeGuin in my bookshelves but have not gotten around to reading them yet. I might have to join a TBR Reading Challenge for 2012 myself – just to get through the huge stack I have here.

I am truly looking forward to knowing about your book finds for this challenge.

    • Thanks! I’ve got a growing TBR stack as well… I’m hoping to see which of them count toward the various challenges that I’m doing this year!

  3. Thanks for joining. I’m a big fan of Le Guin’s work. Haven’t read that book yet. Good luck with the challenge. I’d love to read your reviews on the sci-fi/fantasy genre. 🙂

  4. Yay! I’m planning on doing this one as well. I haven’t written my sign up post yet. I’m so excited to read your reviews!

    • I’m curious to see what books you pick for this one! I’m looking forward to all of the 2012 challenges! 😀
